If You Don’t Talk About You, Who Will?

Let’s talk about talking about you.

Because in this beauty industry—especially the nail world—it can feel so uncomfortable to hype yourself up. But if you ever want to grow, level up, and truly stand out, promoting yourself isn’t optional. It’s necessary.

Think about referrals. They’re GOLD, right? Someone found you because another person talked you up. They said how talented, kind, and professional you are. They gassed you up. But here’s the thing: if you want to grow beyond referrals, you can’t only rely on others to do the talking. You have to gas yourself up too. You have to be the one to promote you.

And yeah, it might feel weird at first. You might think, “Ugh, do I sound full of myself?” or “Am I being too much?” But you’re not. You’re being seen. And if you don’t talk about yourself, no one else will. That phrase is so real—it’s one of my faves because it hits hard. You can’t grow in this industry if you’re hiding in the corner waiting for someone to notice you.

You’ve gotta pop that little bubble you’re in and make yourself known.

Here’s how:

  • Show up on social media. Share your work. Talk about what you love.
  • Post on your stories. Share your thoughts, your fave products, your process.
  • Drop comments in group posts. When someone asks for advice, give it. Show up with your knowledge. Speak with confidence. Be heard.

You don’t have to want to be “famous” to succeed. But if you’re in this career—doing nails, growing a business—you can’t play it small forever. The people you look up to? They weren’t always that confident either. They had to show up and build it, piece by piece. Confidence comes from action. Period.

You will not find confidence hiding behind the scenes. You gain it by putting yourself in those uncomfortable “ugh-I-don’t-wanna” moments—and realizing they weren’t that scary after all. You do it once, then twice, and then suddenly… it’s second nature.

You will always be your biggest hype woman.

And that voice in your head? It better be hyping you up. Not tearing you down. Other people’s opinions don’t pay your bills. Yours does. So if no one’s clapping? Clap for your damn self. Even if it feels a little delulu—believe in your potential anyway.

Here’s your little confidence tip of the day:

Celebrate the small wins.

Posted once this week? Win.

Replied to someone in a group chat? Win.

Talked to your stories even though it felt cringe? Win.

Confidence grows when you acknowledge your progress, even when it’s small.

And don’t forget to reflect. Sometimes all you need to build confidence is to realize how far you’ve actually come. Growth lives in those quiet moments, too.
